Welcome to the York Medical Group Website

This website is for both existing patients and those considering registering with us. It tells you about our services, how to access them and some general information about how our practice operates. At York Medical Group, we aim to treat all our patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence.

Please be sure to check the Your Health Section on your right, we have a lot of information about self care and minor illness that might be helpful to you at home.


Unfortunately due to fire & flood damage our 32 Clifton site is closed until further notice. 

Restoration work is now underway and is expected to take about three months. We are hoping to open 32 Clifton in June 2017.

Any prescriptions already requested and future prescriptions will be available to be collected from our Water Lane site, please contact any of our other sites to make an appointment or request prescriptions, or to use any of our services. Appointments will be available at our Water Lane, Tower Court and Monkgate Surgeries. Your regular Gps and nurses will be available but please double check which site your appointment will be when booking.

We have a very unfortunate situation at present where it has been reported that many of you are having difficulties getting through to York Medical Group sites by phone.  This is a particular problem for Water Lane and 32C. We are investigating the problem and trying to find a workable solution.  In the meantime we are increasing out man power on the phones and hope this will alleviate the situation.
 To help ease pressures further we are encouraging patients to book appointments and request prescriptions using our online system. If you are not already signed up for this service you will need to bring photo ID and proof of address to any of our sites and they can register you for the online system.

The Friends and Family Test

Putting Patients First

The Friends & FamilyTest (FFT) is a feedback tool which offers patients the opportunity to provide feedback about the care and treatment they have received. This is not a traditional survey; this will be a continuous loop between our patients and staff.

The FFT questions asks if patients would recommend the services we provide and how we could improve them. This provides a mechanism to highlight both good and poor patient experience. The data is completely anonymous and is not compulsory, but is available to all patients.

Please understand that it will take 48 hours for a prescription to be processed and signed. Demand is high and we are sorry for any inconvenience. Your prescriptions will be available for collection after 3pm. Don't forget you can order your prescriptions on-line

 Practice Area

We have five sites in the city; please see the maps to find our locations. With the exception of patients registered at York St John University, patients are welcome to make appointments at any of our three main surgeries – Acomb, 32 Clifton, Monkgate and Woodthorpe – even if this is not your usual surgery. All our patients' medical records are computerised, so – for example – if you work in town and it is more convenient for you to be seen at our Monkgate surgery, please do not hesitate to make an appointment there.

Disabled Access

All our surgeries have disabled access. Should you require further information, please telephone the relevant surgery.

We have Disabled parking available at our Acomb and Monkgate sites.

Interpreting Services & Hearing Loops

Interpreting services can be made available in certain circumstances for patients needing translation or those who are hard of hearing or deaf. We would need prior warning to see if it is possible to arrange this service. Please ask at reception for more information.

For deaf people and those hard of hearing, a text phone service is available on 0845-606 4647. 

Portable hearing loops are now available for those who require one from reception. They can be taken into the doctor’s room during your consultation.
